We all matter

A few years ago, I participated for a short period of time in a group called "Animal Libre". A non-profit organization that fights for respect for all animals.

I used to see a group of people standing with banners in the middle of a busy street. The banners showed how crude the meat and makeup companies were to animals, something I didn't agree with. So one day, I approached them and told them I wanted to help them.

This organization was not just about raising awareness about animal abuse. They also collect money for abandoned animals, collect signatures for the release of imprisoned animals, and provide new food alternatives so that animals don't have to be killed.

I think these types of organizations are very important because they give a voice to those who have none. Animals are a very important part of the world, and we have to take care of them.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

At the moment, I have only two ideas about postgraduate studies. One of them is to do a diploma in creative writing, to improve my writing and go beyond the journalistic texts they teach us in the degree. The truth is that I don't care who does it, at a distance or in person. But I would like to do it in Chile.

I would also like to learn another language, I am interested in French. For about two months, I try to study this language virtually, and I can learn some things. But unfortunately, then I didn't have much time and I ended up giving up. This course I like to study it a presential way in Chile, or if possible, abroad. I would like to study French, because I think that studying another language helps a lot professionally, and I find it interesting not only to learn another language, but also another culture.

Roberto Bolaño

Roberto Bolaño is a chilean writer and poet. Although he considers himself Latin American, as he lived most of his life in Mexico and Spain, where he passed away in 2003

Along with other writers, he founded Infrarrealism, a literary movement that proposed a new way of exploring language.

He has more than 30 published works. When he was diagnosed with a serious liver disease, he started writing like crazy to leave a legacy.  His most famous works are "Los detectives Salvajes", "Estrella Distante" and his posthumous work "2666".

I admire Roberto Bolaño's works and his diverse way of writing, as his works range from the detective to the realistic, from the epic to the marginal. And I also admire what he stands for. He always knew he wanted to be a writer, and although he didn't get recognition until his death, he never stopped writing. My favorite book is his only book of poems: "Los perros románticos".

A photograph and Its story

I captured this picture in December 2019, when with my classmates we went to Bariloche, Argentina, one morning when we were taken to a ski lift in Bariloche. I love that in the photo what stands out the most is the green color. There were many trees and plants, and further ahead you can see other telespherics.

I remember that I got scared, because we were going higher and higher. But, I was not the only one, you could hear some shouts of excitement and nervousness from my classmates. Although I was scared at the time, now I remember it with excitement, especially because afterwards we were going down a slide.

I love this picture because I like how it highlights the nature, the other days it was cloudy, but in that one it was perfect, and because it brings back good memories.

My favorite piece of technology

When I was 13 years old I wanted a Tablet, because some of my friends had one. So I made a deal with my parents: I paid half the price and they paid the other half.

We bought the "AOC BREEZE" tablet, and I was so happy to finally have a Tablet, which became my favorite piece of technology. At the time, I used it for gaming. But eventually it broke down, probably because of all the viruses it had, and because I didn't treat it carefully. So I stopped using it. Until I got to university, I saw a tutorial to repair it, and it worked. From then on, I started using it to read texts for some subjects. I like it because it's more convenient for underlining and writing things down.

If I didn't have it, maybe it would be more difficult to study and summarize.

The reason I chose journalism

When I was a kid, my dad told me that my grandma was a cheff, so I decided that when I grew up, I would be a chef in her honor. Some time later, I realized I was very bad at cooking, so I switched to being a marine biologist, because I thought marine life was interesting. But one thing I've always loved, though, is reading and writing. So I started looking for a career related to this, and I found journalism. Some of my favorite writers studied journalism, like Gabriel García Márquez and Eduardo Galeano, so I thought that here I could do the two things I like the most.

My university experience has had good and bad things, I'm still getting used to it. I haven't yet decided what I would like to work on, I would like to try all areas of journalism before making a decision.

𝐻𝐼 𝒯𝐻𝐸𝑅𝐸!

Hi everyone! My name is Anahi, I am nineteen years old and I am a second year journalism student at the University of Chile. I live in Rancagua with my whole family, I am from a family of four, I am the youngest of two siblings. My mom's name is Rosa, my dad's Patricio and my sister's name is Danae.

I used to read a lot, but lately I don't have much time to do it. When I have some free time, I go to visit my grandparents in the countryside. Also, part of my time I invest in my sme on instagram (@patitas.degato).

I have a cat, her name is Dulcinea, she is three years old. The story of how she came into my life is kinda funny. I found her in a tree outside my house, three days before my birthday. So I like to say that she is my favorite birthday present.
